Pick any two of 3,245 airports with scheduled passenger service. You get the great-circle distance, our estimated scheduled flight time in each direction, the clock change and when you’d land in local time.

How the numbers are made

Distance is the great circle — the shortest path over the Earth’s surface — between the airports’ reference points, on a sphere of radius 6,371 km (within about 0.5% of the ellipsoidal distance). Flight time is our estimate of the scheduled gate-to-gate (block) time: a fixed 63 minutes for taxi, climb, descent and schedule padding, plus the great circle flown at 881 km/h, faster or slower with a westerly wind that peaks around 41° latitude. Across 109 published scheduled durations its median error is 9 minutes. Full method and validation.
