Computed lists

Rankings worked out from the full set of 3,245 airports with scheduled service, and from our route guides. Each list explains exactly what it measures.

Longest routesThe 40 longest of our curated city pairs, by great-circle distance, with the estimated scheduled flight time each way. Pairs beyond about 15,400 km are longer than any nonstop airliner route flown today.Shortest international hopsAirports with scheduled service that sit closest to an airport in another country or territory. Distances are straight-line between the airports' reference points; whether any airline flies between them changes and we don't track it.Highest airportsAirports with scheduled passenger service ranked by field elevation. Thin air means longer take-off runs, which is why many of these have very long runways.Longest runwaysThe longest open runway at each airport with scheduled passenger service, from OurAirports' runway records. Most remote airportsAirports ranked by the distance to the nearest other airport with scheduled passenger service. Island airports dominate.Biggest time-zone jumpsPairs of airports no more than 1,500 km apart whose clocks differ the most today (31 October 2026). The International Date Line produces differences of a whole day between neighbours.Antipodal airportsPairs of scheduled airports that lie almost exactly opposite each other on the globe. The greatest possible distance between two points on Earth is about 20,015 km; these come within a few dozen kilometres of it.Jet-stream routesOur routes with the biggest difference between the estimated eastbound and westbound flight times. Prevailing westerly winds at cruise height speed up eastbound flights and slow westbound ones, most strongly in the mid-latitudes.
